Tricolored Blackbird Workshop

Tricolored Blackbird Workshop

May 7-8, 2022. Sacramento, CA

Tricolored blackbirds (Agelaius tricolor) once darkened California evenings in murmurations by the tens of thousands. Now, North America’s most colonial bird (since the passenger pigeon) has become a poster-child for catastrophic decline. Join several of this enigmatic species’ foremost authorities as we explore its natural history, conservation story, status, mitigation measures, and permitting. We’ll spend one day in lecture and one day visiting a colony in the field in Sacramento.

What to Expect: This workshop is geared towards the professional biologist. Participants will need to be in fair physical condition to traverse areas in the field. Field locations will be determined several weeks in advance of the workshop. Participants are expected to provide their own transportation.

Instructors: Dan Airola, Dr. Ted Beedy, Emilie Graves
